Description:
Abstract:
The Pacific Seabird Monitoring Database is a comprehensive repository for North Pacific seabird monitoring results. The database stores data on the 86 species that breed in the Pacific north of 20 degrees N and incorporates a variety of population parameters including abundance, productivity, diet composition and survival. The database has two major components: relational data management and retrieval, and spatial analysis and mapping. The project is a cooperative effort of the Pacific Seabird Group and the USGS Biological Resource Division, Alaska Biological Science Center. - Taken from PSBDB CD-ROM cover and database instruction book
Purpose:
Armed with a complete inventory of past and ongoing seabird monitoring efforts and with the ability to analyze these efforts at a variety of scales, managers will be better able to assess needs and optimize the field program. -- Taken from PSMDB CD-ROM cover
Supplemental_Information:
Metadata Contact: Sara Breslow Location: North Pacific Date Explanation: Earliest and latest dates of data collection (pending). Access Notes: Need Microsoft Windows to run CD. The system uses a run-time version of Microsoft Access. Arc View 3.0 is required to access the database mapping features. Recommended minimum system requirements: 486 with 16 mb RAM.

A beta version of the database is currently available by mail on zip disks, or on the internet via file transfer protocol. Distribution via an internet web site is anticipated.

Each copy of the database is accompanied by a complete set of instructions describing data requirements and the use of the system.

-- Access notes taken from the PSMDB database instruction book, with modifications by Sara Breslow Data Collection Methods: Many researchers contributed to the data in the PSMDB. The program also allows for data entry and data editing. Gaps, Omissions, and Biases: Data collated in the system consist of observations replicated over time and of sufficient quality to permit the meaningful analysis of variability and trends.
