Description:
Abstract:
The Willapa Watershed Information System CD-ROM contains information describing the natural and human resources of the Willapa Watershed. Included on the CD are more than one hundred different spatial data sets as well as additional information in the form of reports, maps, charts and tables about the Willapa Watershed.

The CD is equipped with Netscape Navigator 2.02 for Macintosh, PC, and Unix, and ESRI's ArcView Data Publisher for PC, PLUS all 450 MBs of spatial data. You can use these or your own ArcView program to access the data.

The Willapa Watershed Information System Spatial Data Catalog is a web site that provides FGDC-compliant metadata, reference maps, and relational tables relating to the datasets contained in the CD-ROM. Datasets themselves are not yet accessible via the web but the web site does provide extensive information on how to use the CD, detailing system and space requirements, installation procedures and other information. Purpose:
Combining the public-access philosophy pioneered by Pacific GIS with Ecotrust's conservation-based development mission, Interrain Pacific is an information access organization established to promote conservation-based development by enhancing understanding of social and ecological patterns of change. Interrain Pacific has three objectives:

To empower communities with knowledge To connect collaborators To track bioregional trends

The dynamic nature of the Willapa Watershed Information System makes it necessary to update on a nearly continual basis. Some datasets such as elevation and rivers may not change much over time, but others such as wildlife habitat or vegetation change constantly. Users of the database should be aware of this and can contact source agencies for current versions of many of the datasets as they are updated. Also, new layers are constantly in development that have not yet been released to the public.
